WARNING • Safety warnings, instructions, and guidelines address some common hazards associated with water recreation but cannot cover all hazards and dangers in all cases. Always exercise caution, common sense, and good judgment when enjoying any water activity. In addition, depending on the type of pool, the following information may be provided. • Designate a competent adult to supervise the pool at all times when it is in use. • Railings, pool covers, pool alarms, or similar safety devices are helpful but do not replace continuous and competent adult supervision. Safe Pool Use • Encourage all users, especially children, to learn to swim. • Learn basic life support (CPR) and refresh this knowledge regularly. This can be lifesaving in an emergency. • Instruct all pool users, including children, what to do in an emergency. • Never dive into shallow water. This could result in serious injury or death. • Do not use the pool under the influence of alcohol or medications that may impair your ability to safely use the pool. Safety Devices • To prevent children from drowning, it is recommended to secure access to the pool with a safety device. To prevent children from climbing over the inlet and outlet valves, it is recommended to install a barrier (and secure all doors and windows, if applicable) to prevent unauthorized access to the pool. Safety Equipment • It is recommended to store life-saving equipment (e.g., buoys) by the pool. • Keep a working telephone and a list of emergency numbers near the pool. • When pool covers are used, they should be completely removed from the water surface before entering the pool. • Protect pool users from water-related illnesses by ensuring pool water treatment and practicing proper hygiene. Review the water treatment guidelines in the owner's manual. • Keep chemicals (e.g., water treatment, cleaning, or disinfection agents) out of the reach of children. • Use signage as described below. Signage is to be placed in a visible location 2m from the pool. Keep children under supervision in the water. Diving is prohibited. • Removable ladders must be placed on a level surface. • Regardless of the materials used to construct the pool, accessible surfaces must be inspected regularly to avoid injury. • Regularly inspect screws and bolts. Remove splinters or any sharp edges to avoid injury. • Do not leave the pool drained outdoors. An empty pool may become deformed and/or moved by wind. • If you have a filter pump, consult the pump's instructions. • The pump must not be used when people are in the pool! • If you have a ladder, consult the ladder's instructions. • WARNING! To prevent drowning or other serious injury, pay particular attention to the possibility of children under 5 years of age unexpectedly entering the pool by ensuring access is secured and, during bathing, ensure they are supervised by an adult at all times. Non-swimmer safety • Continuous, active and vigilant supervision of weak swimmers and non-swimmers by a competent adult is required at all times (remembering that children under five years of age are most at risk of drowning). • Weak or non-swimmers should wear personal protective equipment when using the pool. • When the pool is not in use or unsupervised, remove all toys from the pool and its surroundings to avoid attracting children.
